A Surprise

.... waiting for us when we got home from our trek across Texas. After a 5 1/2 hour trip w/ a four year old and a pup and only stopping once - we were so totally glad when we pulled into our drive way Sunday evening. Thankful for a very uneventful fun weekend in Midland and San Angelo. As we were getting out of our vehicles, a neighbor and her daughter were riding by and stopped to visit commenting on how Nolan and the puppy have grown since the last time she saw them!! We were aggravatingly interrupted by a fellow neighbor's yapping dog and we shared stories about how irritating he is!! Hannah shared w/ us that she has seen that crazy dog actually chasing a deer thru the neighborhood. Harley was anxiously trying to get out of my arms to get after the dog but since she wasn't on her leash and we were in the front yard, I knew better than to let her down. We said our goodbyes and I then walked to the gate of our backyard to let Harley down and sent Nolan back there w/ her. Robert and I started to unload our vehicles. I walked into the house w/ an arm full of stuff and passed thru the breakfast area and something caught my eye as I walked by. I caught a glimpse of what I thought was a deer. I dropped my stuff. Ran outside and told Robert that there was a deer in the backyard - I guess I wasn't sure if I was seeing things or not! Both of us shocked - he ran thru the back gate and I went into the house to unlock the back door. The young deer was running madly trying to get out. She threw herself up against our bay window and our pane glass back door. Nolan was standing in the middle of the yard LAUGHING as Harley was chasing the deer!! (My parents have fallow deer in their backyard so Nolan didn't think anything of it!!) Robert was telling Nolan to get in the house as I was struggling to get the back door unlocked!! Needless to say, laughter turned immediately into crying as I finally got the door unlocked. In rushed both Harley and Nolan as I told them to stay in the house and I proceeded to go out the front door to open the gate on the other side of the yard. Finally, she found an open gate and found her way out - just to meet the yapping dog on the other side!! Shew - enough excitement for the rest of the week!! We're guessing she jumped over our fence but didn't think to do the same to get out!! We're just SO thankful that Nolan and Harley were unharmed!!
